Highlights from the Recent Psychology Congress in Helsinki

We are pleased to share that our lab participated in the Psychology Congress (Psykologia Kongressi 2024), held from August 14 to 16, 2024, marking the event’s return after a long hiatus. The congress provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with new colleagues, reunite with familiar faces, and explore the latest discoveries in psychology.

The event brought together researchers, clinical practitioners, and experts from diverse fields related to psychology. Traditionally held every two years, the congress was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic, with the previous gathering having taken place at Tampere University in 2016. This year’s congress was a highly anticipated occasion for exploring advancements in psychological science.

Our lab was represented by our principal investigator, Professor Annette Horstmann, as the keynote speaker. Her presentation focused on the neurocognitive aspects of obesity and eating behaviors, highlighting the brain functions underlying these phenomena.

In addition to the keynote, our lab contributed to a symposium organized by Matthias Aulbach, titled “The Psychology of Food and Eating: From Basics to Real Life Data and Application.” Held in the Main Building, Room F3005, this session featured several insightful talks from our researchers:

  • Arsene Kanyamibwa presented “A picture set of high-fat/high-carbohydrate foods for the population of Finland.”
  • Nadine Herzog discussed “Impaired updating of working memory representations in individuals with high BMI.”
  • Matthias Aulbach shared findings on “Emotional and stress-eating in 800 healthy individuals using EMA.”
  • Artemii Nikitin explored “NeuroPOD — Cognitive Phenotyping and Subgroup Identification in Obesity.”

Beyond the scientific program, attendees enjoyed a university reception and congress dinner, which provided additional opportunities for networking and collaboration.

We are proud of the contributions made by our lab at the congress and look forward to the ongoing impact of these discussions and insights in the field of psychology.
