Prof Dr Neumann studied Computer Science at the Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, and the University of York, England. She received her PhD from the Center for Cognitive Science and the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where she explored new mechanisms for learning complex structures in connectionist networks, supervised by Prof Mark Steedman and Prof David Willshaw. In 2001, she started her postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig. Focus of her research was the development of new methods for computational modelling and statistical analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging data. In 2012 Dr. Neumann received her Habilitation from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Leipzig University with the thesis “Beyond activation detection: Advancing computational techniques for the analysis of functional MRI data”. In 2010 Dr. Neumann started her independent research group “Computational modelling of reward-related and decision making processes” at the Integrated Research and Treatment Center (IFB) AdiposityDiseases, University Clinic Leipzig. Her current research is aimed at the development and application of computational models for human learning and decision making processes, and at investigating the neural correlates of learning and decision making by means of functional brain imaging, together with any obesity-specific alterations of these processes as one possible cause of obesity.
